I have just read some terrible reviews on this place, and I honestly cannot see where some people are coming from. My wife and I stayed here for 6 nights and it was spotlessly clean, huge room with great facilities, massive walk in shower, fan and air conditioning, huge comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities and bright and modern. Cleaned on a daily basis to a high level. Honestly, I cannot recommend this place enough. The staff were always friendly and informative and a pleasure to deal with. It’s not in the heart of fort Kochi but the price reflects that, and I think it’s perfectly positioned to give you a real sense of local life and still close enough to the beating tourist heart. Please ignore the negative comments, I think maybe these people are more used to 5 star pampered luxury. I would DEFINITELY stay here again

I believe the ratings and reviewe in Booking.com are not genuine as I booked this property after reading reviews in Booking.com. We stayed in apartment room that has two rooms with attached bathroom, a common area, kitchen with tea kettle and fridge. Cable T.V. didn't work, no channels. Bathroom fixtures were coming out if wall. Fan stopped working at night. Poor maintenance all together. Complimentary breakfast was pathetic. Better to avoid.

1. Room was bright from the lights from the Atrium and the glaring light on the air con (why would you have this FACING the bed?). We had to put a blanket up and stick something over the aircon blue light in order to get some form of darkness at night. 2. Room was cleaned only when the staff felt like doing it. We asked several days in a row and only got 1 towel (two of us), bed not made, toilet roll not replenished, bin not emptied. Very strange. 3. The rooms are not exactly rooms, but more converted flats, so you'll walk into a 'common area' which you share with others which is odd. Power is centrally controlled in the common area by a card key which is annoying when the other residents go out at 8am and you have to run our in your pyjamas so the air con doesn't stop. 4. We got laundry done - a housekeeper came to our door and took the laundry. Later that day, we collected it and that was that. On checkout, they tried to charge us an extortionate amount of money (£16 GBP) for the laundry service. I wouldn't even pay that at home in the UK 👍 I got embroiled in a long debate with the front desk team who kept saying 'I don't know what to do' - very poor that the management have not prepared them for any such situations. 5. The Wifi is terrible. So slow and you have to keep asking them to 're set it' every time you 'reach your data limit'. Why is there a limit if you're just going to keep refreshing it? 6. Towels were dirty. 7. Lobby smelled like faeces.

Very serious management dysfunction

A couple of dysfunctions spoil your stay at Grand Canyon Hotel. 1. WIFI. Connexion is practically impossible in the room. With my lap-top NO connexion. With my smartphone 10-20% sometimes in the middle of the night. Everything seems to be made to annoy and irritate the host : every half-hour you have to enter your code for a wifi that does not work, then they tell you that the code has changed! 2. Service. First day I had to ask for drinking water - there was none in the room – there is no fridge in the room. In the evening of the second day, I had to ask if they were ever cleaning/making the rooms, changing the towels, etc. 3. The light in the rooms – an incredible complication/worry There are four rooms round a salon. They are rather small and have small windows that are darkened by curtains. When you enter the salon, you put your plastic card into the light pocket – that gives light to all 4 rooms. When you leave, you take it out – it cuts the light in all 4 rooms... So several times I was suddenly in total darkness because a neighbour went away taking his plastic card out of the light pocket.... 4. News paper On the first morning they put a news paper in front of the salon-door. Second and third day no news paper in front of my salon-door... 5. Breakfast Breakfast of the first morning was O.K. On the second morning, it was terrible. On the third, I had practically no breakfast. The boys prepare the butter long before 8 a-clock, they leave it out in the ambient temperature of 30 degrees - so that when they bring it to you, it has totally melted, it is a butter soup. They prepare the toasts long ahead, put them into a big bowl and tap the bowl! The heat condenses into steam and when the hosts come at 8 a-clock for their breakfast, they find a kind of toast-soup... I got a small glass (no cup) of tea. When I asked for a second glass, I never got it... etc.

Disgusting Hotel

Worst Hotel I have ever stayed in in all my travels. All of my comments below are no exaggeration at all. The hotel is very dirty, unhygienic and the amenities are dreadful. I know it is only a 3 star hotel but quality and cleanliness must still be maintained. We stayed here only by necessity as the quality hotels were booked out. Some of the staff were ok but some were terrible. You know which category you fall in. Its probably not the staffs fault for incompetence as it was evident most have not been trained in the hospitality/tourism trade. My wife went to reception to ask for some more toilet paper. A basic need which must be supplied to guests. She was rudely spoken to by males at the reception and told that housekeeping has finished for the day and toilet paper will be supplied the following day when they return to work. Really, is it beyond the males at reception to go to the store room and get a new toilet roll!!!! My wife felt intimidated by the treatment she received so my son and I went down and confronted them and yes I intended to reverse the intimidation and within 30 minutes we received toilet paper. The room at the hotel was disgusting on all levels. Linen was stained and stunk of god knows what.. Bath towels ripped. The walls in all the rooms were smeared with dirty hand prints. The small amount of furniture supplied was shocking. Plaster peeling off walls and god only knows how someone hasn't been electrocuted by the terribly installed power points and electrical fittings. Breakfast was supplied in the adjoining Malabar Grill House. The boys serving were doing their best and always had a smile on their faces. The restaurant is dirty and grimy inside and the tables and chairs had multiple stains all over them. I took one look at the serving station and couldn't believe the unhygienic, dirty servers that had the food in them. If you are going to get sick in India, this is the place to go. We didn't return after going there once. The hotel falsely advertise hi speed wifi, minibar, dishwasher and who knows what else. Nothing is supplied. Well the wifi is but it hardly ever worked. Same goes for the electricity at this hotel. It cuts out all the time. I count 7 times during one evening which is inexcusable. The drama's we had were endless. We cancelled our last night stay there and the staff just didn't want to compensate/reimburse us. The endless excuses we got from whoever it was at reception is comical. If the staff/owners of the Grand Canyon read this, I'm sure I'll get some form of reply that they are sorry for any inconveniences caused and to contact them so they can rectify any problems. Well we have, and nothing will come of it. We have also notified the global booking agency we booked through and they were so horrified that they are conducting their own investigation. This is not a hotel for tourists or business people who expect any form of comfort, hygiene or service. Avoid at all costs. On a positive note, it is well located and walking distance or short tuk tuk ride to the sights....
